The Axil Committee

The Marigold Fund Axil Committee is the community advisory body shaping the Marigold Fund for Unincorporated California. Named after the part of the plant that determines new growth, their decisions direct grantmaking towards the intersectional healing of soil, air, drinking water, and rural livelihood in the Central Valley, keeping resources in the hands of those closest to the work. Committee members bring lived expertise from California’s deeply rural unincorporated communities, places long shut out of the capital and political representation that shape soil and water governance. Importantly, these women each have personal experience running or cultivating their own projects that have successfully transitioned land in the Central Valley of California. Their expertise ensures that their successes are biomimetically replicated across the Valley’s most forgotten and most promising landscapes, using the Marigold Fund to nourish the root system of community land stewardship initiatives led by farmworkers, small-scale farmers, and Tribes.
