People Food and Land Foundation provides development support, fiscal sponsorship, financial training, and management tools to empower communities to build the organizations that help them reach their full potential.

At PFL, we believe resilient communities start with access to the fundamental building blocks of life: food, shelter, water, energy, and a supportive community. These essential needs must be locally sourced, locally produced, and locally distributed. PFL is dedicated to creating sustainable, equitable organizations and businesses that support individuals and families with a particular focus on the most extracted communities.

Access to knowledge, capital, and community are fundamental parts of the drive toward self-determination. Organizational resilience is built on strong networks of knowledge-sharing, financial empowerment, and community support. As reflected in our founders’ guiding principle from 1974, "The land belongs to those who work it," PFL supports the people who have been historically removed from stepping into land and soil stewardship roles with the governance tools to tend and care for land.

Fiscal Sponsorship

PFL’s fiscal sponsorship program allows emerging organizations to incubate and grow their initiatives under the legal and administrative umbrella of PFL. By doing so, we ensure that budding organizations have access to the knowledge, connections, and resources they need to succeed while focusing on their mission-driven work. This model enables local, community-led efforts to flourish by reducing the administrative burdens that often hinder early-stage organizations, allowing them to access funding, training, and support that may otherwise be out of reach.

PFL’s Mycelium Clearinghouse Fund (MCF) was developed to address a critical gap in financing for ecologically beneficial projects, particularly those centered on regenerative agriculture and the circular bioeconomy. Many small to mid-size projects in these sectors face financial barriers due to the limitations of traditional funding mechanisms, especially reimbursement-based grants and loans that often have prohibitive fees and interest rates. The MCF offers a sustainable alternative, providing low-cost, accessible capital to initiatives that drive ecological sustainability, resilience, and social equity.
